Musings — That’s an achievement

Achievements are not the same for everyone.

I mean it both literally and metaphorically. You might be the next Einstein but your artistic pioneer friend who has rewritten the rules of modern art may not consider you in his league.

We celebrate achievements. All of us do. A few permit themselves a smile and then move onto to the next goal in their to do list. Some of us would treat ourself and our loved ones to a chocolate, an icecream, a meal. Most of us will shout it out from the rooftops and party like anything. They’re all good. Achievements should be acknowledged no matter how people do so.

It’s strange how wide the range of achievement is. For some, it might be curing covid, inventing a new kind of art, stretching the limits of the human body, going past the frontiers of science, bringing glory to your nation, impacting the lives of those in need or reaching the top of your career.

For most, though, it would be dining at a restaurant you’ve only looked at from outside for decades, buying furniture for home, staying at a clean place, providing yourself and your family with a better lifestyle and the chance to live with dignity.

For most, it is an achievement to be in a place with freedom, where the road ahead, so full of possibilities, is finally imaginable.
